Help Guide

Paywoll Help Guide

Learn how to monetize your content with paywalls in minutes. No technical experience required.

What is Paywoll?

Paywoll is a simple service that helps content creators, bloggers, and businesses make money from their content by adding payment gates. Think of it as a digital bouncer for your premium content.

Instead of letting everyone access your valuable content for free, Paywoll creates a payment page that visitors must complete before they can view your content.

Getting Started

Step 1: Sign Up

Create your Paywoll account using just your email address. We'll send you a magic link to sign in - no passwords to remember!

Sign Up Free →

Step 2: Connect Stripe

Connect your own Stripe account so payments go directly to you. We use Stripe Connect (Express) with direct charges — you own the products, prices, customers, and payouts.

  1. Open Dashboard → Connect Stripe
  2. Complete the onboarding (KYC + payout method)
  3. Back on the Connect page, click “Refresh Status” until Connected and Charges Enabled show “Yes”

Step 3: Create a Product

You can create and manage products (and their prices) directly in Paywoll — we’ll create them in your connected Stripe account — or load existing ones from Stripe.

  • Dashboard → Create New Paywall → “Create Product”
  • Or: Dashboard → Products → “Create Product” or archive existing products
  • When you select a product, the amount/currency/type auto-fill from the Stripe price

Step 4: Create Your Content

Upload your content anywhere you like - your website, Google Drive, Dropbox, YouTube (unlisted), or any other platform. Just make sure you have a direct link to your content that you can share with paying customers.

Creating Your First Paywall

What You'll Need

  • Content URL: The link to your premium content
  • Stripe Price ID: From your Stripe dashboard (looks like "price_1234...")
  • Paywall Name: A unique name for your paywall (used in the URL)

Creating the Paywall

  1. Go to your dashboard and click "Create New Paywall"
  2. Enter a unique name for your paywall (this will be part of your paywall URL)
  3. Paste your content URL (where users go after they pay)
  4. Enter your Stripe Price ID from your Stripe dashboard
  5. Choose your payment mode
  6. Click "Create Paywall"

Success! 🎉

Your paywall is now live! You'll get a link like paywoll.com/your-paywall-name that you can share anywhere.

Setting Up Stripe

Why Stripe?

Stripe is the world's most trusted payment processor, handling billions of dollars in transactions for businesses of all sizes. When someone pays through your paywall, the money goes directly to your Stripe account, not ours.

Setting Up Your Products

In Your Stripe Dashboard:

  1. Go to Products → Add Product
  2. Name your product (e.g., "Premium Blog Post", "Video Course")
  3. Set your price (one-time payment or subscription)
  4. Save the product and copy the "Price ID" (starts with "price_")
  5. Use this Price ID when creating your paywall

Tip: You can create multiple products with different prices for different types of content. Each paywall can use a different Stripe Price ID.

Sharing Your Protected Content

Once your paywall is created, you'll get a special link that you can share anywhere instead of your direct content link.

❌ Don't share this (your direct content):
https://yoursite.com/premium-article
✅ Share this instead (your paywall):
https://paywoll.com/premium-article

Where to Share Your Paywall Links

Social Media

  • • Twitter/X posts
  • • LinkedIn articles
  • • Facebook posts
  • • Instagram bio links

Direct Marketing

  • • Email newsletters
  • • WhatsApp/Telegram
  • • Discord servers
  • • Your website/blog

QR Codes

Quickly generate a scannable QR code for any paywall. This is available on all plans and works offline (no external services).

Where to find it

  • • Standard paywalls: Dashboard → /{slug} → Edit → QR Code (above Piracy Protection)
  • • Multi‑link paywalls: Dashboard → Multi‑link → Edit → QR Code (above Design controls)

Options

  • • Format: SVG (crisp print) or PNG
  • • Size: 128–1024px with adjustable padding
  • • Link target: paywoll.com or your custom domain (if configured)

How to use

  1. Open your paywall’s Edit page in the dashboard.
  2. Scroll to the “QR Code” card.
  3. Pick the format (SVG for print, PNG for web) and size you need.
  4. Download the image or copy the link/image URL.
  5. Print on flyers, add to slides, or share online. Scanning opens your paywall.

Tip: If you’ve set a custom domain on your paywall, you can target it directly from the QR card.

Piracy Protection

Agency Plan

Advanced Piracy Protection

Protect your premium content with watermarking, screenshot detection, and screen recording prevention. Available for Agency plan subscribers only.

Features

  • Watermarking: Dynamic watermarks with purchaser email/ID
  • Screenshot Detection: Disables Print Screen, right-click, and text selection
  • Screen Recording Prevention: Detects recording tools and shows blackout overlay
  • Hardened Viewer: Routes paid users through protected viewer at /c/<your-slug>
  • Agency Enhanced: Additional controls and customization options

How to enable it

  1. Upgrade to Agency: This feature requires an Agency plan subscription.
  2. Open an existing paywall from your dashboard and choose Edit.
  3. Scroll to the Piracy Protection panel and flip the toggle on.
  4. Save your changes. New purchases immediately land inside the protected viewer.
  5. For multi-link pages, enable the toggle beside each link you want watermarked.

Tips

  • • Share the protected link directly if you manually grant access—pass the buyer email in the URL to brand the watermark.
  • • Combine the feature with hosted success pages or multi-link hubs so premium content never appears unprotected.
  • • Remind customers that protection is a deterrent layer; revoke access if someone attempts to circulate recordings.

Custom Domains

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get paid?

Payments go directly to your Stripe account. You control your payout schedule through your Stripe dashboard - daily, weekly, or monthly.

What fees does Paywoll charge?

Paywoll doesn't take any percentage of your sales. You only pay Stripe's standard processing fees (2.9% + 30¢ per transaction) plus your monthly plan fee.

Can I use this for subscription content?

Yes! Create recurring pricing in Stripe and use those Price IDs in your paywalls for subscription-based content.

What happens if someone shares the direct content link?

Paywoll doesn't control access to your content directly. You should keep your direct content links private and only share your paywall links publicly.
